Elevated ceruloplasmin and copper in the serum may be associated with a greenish color.
Common causes of an elevated ceruloplasmin and copper may include:
(1) pregnancy
(2) oral contraceptive therapy
(3) estogen replacement therapy
(4) other high estrogen states
(5) long-standing rheumatoid arthritis
Differential diagnosis:
(1) elevated bilirubin (tends to be yellowish)
(2) overgrowth with Pseudomonas aeruginosa
(3) medication
Fresh froze plasma (FFP) from a screened donor that has been properly stored and distributed is safe for transfusion.
