Guillain Barre Syndrome Disease Scale for Disability

Hughes et al developed a scale to grade the disability associated with the Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

Parameters:

(1) clinical findings

(2) ability to perform manual work (or able to run)

Clinical Status	Manual Work	Grade
healthy	able	0
minor signs and symptoms of neuropathy	able	1
able to walk without a support	unable	2
able to walk with support, stick or appliance	unable	3
confined to bed or chair (ECOG 4)	unable	4
requires assisted ventilation	unable	5
dead	unable (unless a zombie)	6

where:

• The need for assisted ventilation may be intermittent or continuous.
