Description

Gursoy et al used the HALP score as a prognostic tool for patients with myelodysplasia. The HALP score has been used as a prognostic tool in many types of cancer. The authors are from multiple institutions in Turkey.

HALP is an acronym for hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte and platelet count

Patient selection: myelodysplasia

Parameters:

(1) hemoglobin in g/L

(2) serum albumin in g/L

(3) absolute lymphocyte count in 10^9/L

(4) platelet count in 10^9/L

HALP score =

= (hemoglobin) * (albumin) * (lymphocyte count) / (platelet count)

Interpretation:

• A HALP score > 67.5 is associated with a worse prognosis. This score tends to be seen in patients with high and very high risk IPSS-R grades.
