The head of a young child can become entrapped in many ways. If the child is unable to extricate him/herself or if the child is not found then the child may die from asphyxiation.
Head entrapment can occur:
(1) in a crib
(2) in a shopping cart
(3) in an outside playset such as monkey bars
(4) in a filing cabinet
(5) in a stroller
(6) in a chair
The risk can be reduced by carefully looking for sites of head entrapment. It may be impossible to eliminate the risk entirely. Prevention requires constant vigilance for potential hazards.
