Idiopathic Granulomatous Hepatitis (IGH) is a term used for a patient with granulomatous hepatitis for which there is no known cause. The diagnosis is primarily a diagnosis of exclusion in a patient with granulomatous hepatitis.
Clinical and laboratory features:
(1) fever of unknown origin (FUO)
(2) unexplained elevation of the liver function tests (LFTs)
(3) abdominal pain
(4) granulomatous hepatitis on liver biopsy
(5) exclusion of known causes for granulomatous hepatitis
A diagnosis of idiopathic granulomatous hepatitis can be changed if subsequent evidence for an underlying cause is identified.
