A patient with limited numeracy may not take a medication correctly.
A person with marginal or poor numeracy may have difficulty with:
(1) performing a simple calculation
(2) making a dose adjustment
(3) converting between units (such as age in years or months)
(4) understanding what units of measurement mean
(5) determining how long or how often to take a drug
Factors that may compound error from poor numeracy:
(1) poor literacy
(2) difficulty with a different language
(3) poor eyesight
(4) cognitive or intellectual impairment
