Description

Spyropoulos et al evaluated hospitalized medical patients for the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). They developed a model that can be used to identify patients who may benefit from more aggressive management. The study was performed by the International Medical Prevention Registry on Venous Thromboembolism (IMPROVE) investigators.

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 12

• The higher the score the greater the risk of venous thromboembolism within the next 3 months.
