Manning et al developed the Independent Mobility Validation Examination (I-MOVE) tool to evaluate patients for mobility prior to hospital discharge. The authors are from Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Patient selection: hospitalized patient who is able to move
Parameters:
(1) daily extent of mobility
(2) need for assistance

Points |
daily extent of mobility |

IMOVE score =
= SUM(points for the 2 parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 1 (a person who cannot sit up with assistance would be 0)
• maximum score: 12
• The higher the score the better the patient's mobility.
Purpose: To assess a patient's mobility using the Independent Mobility Validation Examination (I-MOVE) of Manning et al.
