Some patients with chronic Chagas’ disease may be classified as indeterminate.
Criteria for indeterminate Chagas’ disease:
(1) chronic Chagas’ disease, with positive T. cruzi serology
(2) absence of symptoms
(3) absence of physical findings
(4) normal 12-lead ECG
(5) normal imaging studies of chest, esophagus and colon
Approximately a quarter of patients classified as indeterminate will progress to clinical disease over subsequent years.
