Vaccination with mpox vaccine should be provided for a person with indications and without contraindications to the vaccine.
Types of mpox vaccine:
(1) JYNNEOS uses an attenuated, nonreplicating, live orthopoxvirus
(2) ACAM2000 uses live, replicating vaccinia
The ACAM2000 could cause infection in a patient with severe immunosuppression.
Indications for JYNNEOS vaccine:
(1) exposure to someone with mpox (known or suspected)
(2) sex partner in the past 2 weeks who was diagnosed with mpox
(3) gay, bisexual male who has sex with men or transgender, nonbinary or gender-diverse person in the past 6 months who has been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection or who has had more than 1 sex partner
(4) sex in a commercial sex club or bathhouse
(5) sex related to an event where mpox virus transmission is occurring
(6) have had a sex partner with any of the above risks
(7) expect to have a sex partner with any of the above risks
(8) have HIV or other cause of immune suppression and may have any of the above exposures
(9) work with mpox in a laboratory
(10) exposed to mpox as a healthcare worker
Contraindications for JYNNEOS vaccine:
(1) allergy to a component of the vaccine (gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, eggs, chicken protein)
(2) allergic reaction to a dose of mpox vaccine
