Inhalation of lead oxide fumes can be very dangerous to the person involved.


Lead oxide fumes are generated when exposed to lead is exposed to high heat in the presence of oxygen in the air.

 

Examples of generating scenarios:

(1) oxy-acetylene cutting

(2) electric arc welding

(3) overheating of molten lead

 

People at risk may include:

(1) welders

(2) demolition workers

(3) commercial operation using molten lead

(4) firefighter

 

Risk factors for toxicity:

(1) there is repeated, chronic exposure

(2) single massive exposure

(3) absence of respiratory protection

(4) poor ventilation
