A patient with hemochromatosis may undergo a series of phlebotomies in order to reduce the body iron stores. The amount of iron removed due to phlebotomy can be estimated from the sequential data.
As reported in Chapter 03 (algorithm 03.03.03):
mg of iron lost =
= (volume of blood removed in mL) * (hematocrit in percent) / 100
cumulative iron loss =
= SUM(mg of iron lost during the phlebotomy program)
