Description

The Koebner phenomenon (isomorphic response) refers to a skin lesion appearing at the site of recent or previous trauma. This may occur in patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis.


 

Types of predisposing injuries that can serve as a focus for cutaneous leishmaniasis:

(1) surgical scar

(2) tattoo

(3) insect bite

(4) shaving cut

(5) abrasion or excoriation

(6) blunt trauma

(7) coral cut

(8) burn

(9) cat scratch

(10) puncture wound or other penetrating trauma

 

A person with cutaneous leishmaniasis should avoid skin injuries in visible or cosmetically sensitive sites whenever possible.
