Chan et al reported the LEFt clinical decision rule for the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in a pregnant or recently pregnant woman. This can help to identify a woman in whom a DVT can be excluded clinically.
Criteria for DVT on B-mode compression ultrasonography:
(1) lack of compressibility of a deep vein
(2) absence of Doppler flow in iliac vein
(3) direct visualization of a thrombus
Features:
(1) symptomatic/suspicion of thrombus on left side (L)
(2) edema (E) with >= 2 cm difference in calf circumference between left and right side
(3) presentation during first trimester (Ft)
