The U.S. Coast Guard has different security levels for the maritime industry, based on decisions of the Secretary of Homeland Security and Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. It shares features with the Homeland Security Advisory System (HSAS).

Vehicles are subject to inspection at all MARSEC levels.
MARSEC levels 2 and 3 are typically maintained for limited periods of time, depending on the nature and duration of the security threat.
