A score combining the MELD score and serum lactate can help predict prognosis for a patient with cirrhosis or other chronic liver disease.
Patient selection: chronic liver disease, cirrhosis
Parameters:
(1) MELD score
(2) serum lactate in mmol/L
MELD-Lactate score =
= (0.338 * (MELD)) + (5.5257 * SQRT(lactate)) + 0.251
Interpretation:
• The higher the score the greater the risk of mortality.
• In the study of Chen nonsurvivors had a score >= 16.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve for inpatient mortality was 0.81.
