Description

de Bastos et al developed the NAVAL score for identifying a hospitalized patient at risk for venous thrombosis. A patient at risk may benefit from closer monitoring and more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple hospitals in Brazil including Hospital Naval Marcilio Dias in Rio de Janeiro.

Patient selection: hospitalized patient

Parameters:

• The cutoff for age is described as "under 60" and "over 60".

= SUM(points for all 4 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 8

• The higher the score the greater the risk for hospital-acquired venous thrombosis.
