Age of the patient

• hypertension?

• diabetes?

• coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease or other vascular disease?

• clinical evidence of valve disease?

• clinical evidence of heart failure?

• impaired left ventricular function on echocardiography?

• a history of stroke, TIA or thromboembolic event?

• contraindication to aspirin?

• contraindication to warfarin?
