Description

Carle et al developed an early warning score (EWS) for obstetrical patients. This takes into account the changes that pregnancy has on the physiologic response to illness. The authors are from Peterborough City Hospital, University Hospital of South Manchester and Stepping Hill Hospital in England.

Parameters (collected during the first 24 hours after a critical care admission):

(1) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

(2) diastolic blood pressure in mm Hg

(3) respiratory rate in breaths per minute

(4) heart rate in beats per minute

(5) FIO2 need to keep oxygen saturation >= 96%

(6) body temperature in °C

(7) level of consciousness
