Description

Exposure to certain chemicals or allergens at work can cause or worsen asthma.


 

Criteria for the Diagnosis of Occupational Asthma

 

(1) new onset or reactivation of quiescent reversible bronchospasm

AND

(2) at least 2 of the following:

(2a) Cross shift losses of >= 10% FEV1 by spirometry.

(2b) A clear history of temporal periodicity of symptoms in association with work exposures.

(2c) A documented exposure to an agent previously proven to cause asthma.

(2d) Remission of symptoms after withdrawal from exposure.
