Larvae of certain botflies may be found in or around the eyes.
Botflies involved: sheep (Oestrus ovis), horse (Gastrophilus species)
Clinical features:
(1) conjunctivitis
(2) swelling of an eyelid
(3) swelling of a lacrimal gland
(4) retinal detachment
(5) destruction of the globe
Symptoms may include:
(1) foreign body sensation
(2) photophobia
(3) ocular irritation, discomfort or pain
