Fordyce spots can be found in the mouth or on the genitals of many adults.
Clinical features:
(1) multiple small yellowish-white papules on the buccal mucosa or inner surface of the lips
(2) asymptomatic
Histologic findings:
(1) sebaceous gland hyperplasia
Occurrence of Fordyce spots on the lower gingiva and vestibular oral mucosa can be seen with hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer center (HNPCC).
Differential diagnosis:
(1) HPV infection
Therapy may include:
(1) isotretinoin
(2) electrodesiccation
(3) CO2 laser
(4) bichloracetic acid
