Description

Mushrooms of the genus Ganoderma may be ingested in northeast Asia as an herbal medicine. A strain of Ganoderma neojaponicum Imazeki has been associated with a reversible pancytopenia.

The main clinical finding was reversible hypoplastic pancytopenia.

 

Cases have been reported after eating the fungus raw and others after decoction.

 

Other causes of pancytopenia should be excluded.
