Tollisen et al reported a Patient Generated Index (PGI) for an adult with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). The authors are from the University of Oslo and affiliated hospitals in Norway.
Patient selection: Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA)
Step 1: The patient identifies the 5 most important areas affected in her/his life affected by the JIA. These may include: sleep, pain, sexuality, disability, physical activity, hobbies, self-image, travel, relationships, fatigue, etc.
Step 2 (Severity): Each of these areas is scored from 0 (very bad) to 6 (very good).
Step 3 (Priority): Starting with 10 available points, assign them to the 5 areas based on how important it is to have an improvement.
For each area:
points =
= (severity score) * (priority score)
total PGI =
= SUM(points for all 5 areas) / 6 * 100
Interpretation:
• minimum PGI: 0
• maximum PGI: 100
• The higher the PGI the better the quality of life.
