Rossi et al developed the Pelvic Masses Score (PMS) to evaluate a woman with a pelvic mass. The authors are from the University of Udine in Italy.
Patient selection: woman with a pelvic mass
Parameters:
(1) Sassone score (from 4 to 15)
(2) serum CA125 in IU/mL
(3) vascularization score
(4) menopausal status
(5) resistance index (RI) for the mass

where:
• The resistance index for benign masses was 0.83 +/- 0.14 and for malignant masses 0.64 +/- 0.15.
• The method for measuring serum CA125 was not given.
PMS =
= (Sassone score) * LOG10(serum CA125) * (vascularization score) * (menopausal status score) / (resistance index)
Interpretation:
• A score >= 29 indicates a malignant ovarian tumor.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve was 0.98 in the study population.
