Berkenstadt et al used the Perceived Personal Control (PPC) questionnaire to evaluate the adequacy of genetic counseling in helping a patient understand his or her condition. The same concepts can be applied to other medical conditions. The authors are from Sheba Medcal Center and Tel-Aviv University in Israel.
NOTE: The initial questionnaire was formulated for genetic counseling. The following statements have been modified to be more generic.

If not all of the statements were considered applicable or were not answered, then the total number answered is substituted in place of the 9 in previous 2 equations.
Interpretation:
• minimum total score: 0
• maximum total score: 18
• maximum average score: 2
• The higher the score the greater the perception of personal control.
• A low score would identify a patient who might benefit from additional counseling.
