A patient with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis) may suffer fatigue, which can be disabling and which negatively impact the patient's quality of life. A number of factors may contribute to the fatigue.
Patient selection: inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
Fatigue may comprise:
(1) physical fatigue
(2) mental fatigue and/or reduced motivation
(3) general fatigue
Possible contributors include:
(1) anemia (anemia of chronic disease, iron deficiency, blood loss, etc)
(2) disturbed sleep
(3) depression
(4) active inflammatory bowel disease
(5) adverse drug effects
(6) nutritional deficiency
(7) deconditioning
