A patient who has recovered from COVID-19 may experience persistent fatigue, especially if the infection was severe. It is one of the findings under the umbrella of "long COVID".
Overlapping factors:
(1) post-critical care fatigue
(2) depression and/or anxiety
(3) sleep disturbances
(4) comorbid conditions
(5) age
Clinical findings:
(1) reduced muscle strength
(2) low levels of physical fitness and reduced physical capacity
(3) reduced respiratory capacity with greater sensation of dyspnea
The presence of chronic fatigue is associated with a worse quality of life.
The impact of the fatigue is affected by the person's occupation. It may be greater in patients engaged in strenuous activities and demanding psychological situations.
