A patient with biphasic tick-borne encephalitis may experience a post-encephalitic syndrome.
Patient selection: TBE with CNS involvement
Sequelae that may persist after the acute illness include:
(1) cognitive dysfunction including memory deficits and difficulty concentrating
(2) neuropsychiatric complaints (apathy, irritability)
(3) altered sleep patterns
(4) chronic headache
(5) hearing loss and/or tinnitus
(6) visual disturbances
(7) disorders of balance and coordination
(8) flaccid paresis or paralysis
