Lichen sclerosus et atrophicus may occur following radiation therapy.
Patient selection: woman with a history of radiation therapy
Clinical features:
(1) new onset of skin lesions in an irradiated area
(2) often history of lichen sclerosus et atrophicus in anogenital region
(3) skin lesions are flat sclerotic, whitish papules and plaques
(4) often with telangiectasia
(5) variable presence of bullae
Pathologic features:
(1) thinning of the epidermis
(2) variable perivascular lymphoid infiltrate in the dermis
(3) dermal sclerosis
The diagnosis requires exclusion of other conditions.
The lesions have been referred to as post-irradiation morphea.
