Description

Guo et al reported the HALP Score for predicting prognosis for a patient with metastatic prostate cancer. Sert et al reported its use to predict severe preeclampsia. The authors are from Aksaray University Medical School and Konya City Hospital in Turkey.

HALP is an acronym for hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte and platelet count

Patient selection: pregnant woman

Parameters from first trimester:

(1) hemoglobin in g/L

(2) serum albumin in g/L

(3) absolute lymphocyte count in 10^9/L

(4) platelet count in 10^9/L

HALP score =

= (hemoglobin) * (albumin) * (lymphocyte count) / (platelet count)

Interpretation:

• A HALP score > 4.61 predicted pre-eclampsia with severe features.

Performance:

• The sensitivity was 0.75 and specificity 0.81.
