Description

Khan et al reported findings seen at presentation for a toddler with an intracranial space-occupying lesion (ICSOL). These can help to identify a patient requiring brain imaging as soon as possible. The authors are from Loma Linda University.

Patient selection: toddler (1 to 2 years old) with symptoms

Signs and symptoms associated with an intracranial space-occupying lesion:

(1) unexplained vomiting

(2) abnormal neurologic examination (motor weakness, ataxia, other)

(3) change in behavior

Keys to early diagnosis:

(1) careful history

(2) careful neurologic examination

Seizures have also been associated with intracranial space-occupying lesions.
