LeBrun et al reported factors associated with wound complications in patients undergoing surgical resection and radiation therapy for a soft tissue sarcoma. These can help to identify a patient at increased risk for wound complications. The authors are from University of Pennsylvania.
Patient selection: soft tissue sarcoma, status post surgical resection and radiation therapy
Outcome: wound complication within 4 months of surgery
Predictors of wound complications from multivariate analysis:
(1) diabetes (OR 9.6)
(2) Grade 2 radiation dermatitis or greater (OR 4.8)
(3) use of 3D conformal radiation therapy (OR 4.6, versus intensity-modulated radiation therapy or proton radiation)
