Nakajima et al reported predictors for the site of tumor recurrence following hepatectomy for metastatic colorectal cancer. The presence of intrahepatic or extrahepatic recurrence is associated with a poor prognosis. The authors are from Nara Medical University in Japan.

Site of Recurrence
>= 3 liver metastases
liver
metastasis lying adjacent to hepatic vein
lung
A patient at increased risk for recurrence may benefit from adjuvant therapy and closer monitoring.
