Rogerson et al reported predictors for complications following anterior cervical diskectomy. A patient with one or more of the risk factors may benefit from interventions to reduce the risk of complications. The authors are from Tufts Medical Center and Newton Wellesley Hospital in Boston.
Patient selection: 1 or 2 level anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion (ACDF)
The risk of any medical complication was about 3%.
Complications:
(1) mortality
(2) airway complications
(3) neurologic complications
(4) surgical site infection (SSI)
