Martin et al reported factors associated with postoperative complications in patients undergoing minimally invasive surgery. The authors are from the University of California at Irvine.
Patient selection: adult undergoing minimally invasive pituitary surgery.
Parameters:
(1) ASA performance status
(2) mFI-5 of Subramaniam et al, from 0 to 5, separated into 0, 1, and 2-5
The risk of surgical complications based on ASA performance status:
(1) ASA 3 (OR 2.2)
(2) ASA 4 or 5 (OR 3.1)
The risk of medical complications had an odds ratio of 4.1 for and ASA 4 or 5.
An mFI-5 score of 2-5 was associated with increased medical complications and a higher mortality rate.
Age was not an issue for older adults without significant comorbidities.
