Kawahara et al reported the Prognosis Predictive Score around Neo Adjuvant Chemotherapy (PPSN) to evaluate a woman with an epithelial ovarian cancer. The authors are from Nara Medical University in Japan.
Patient: epithelial ovarian cancer
Management: surgery, neo-adjuvant chemotherapy, subsequent interval debulking surgery
Parameters:
(1) percent neutrophils before neoadjuvant chemotherapy
(2) percent lymphocytes before neoadjuvant chemotherapy
(3) absolute lymphocyte count before neoadjuvant chemotherapy
(4) percent neutrophils after neoadjuvant chemotherapy
(5) percent lymphocytes after neoadjuvant chemotherapy
(6) absolute lymphocyte count after neoadjuvant chemotherapy
(7) platelet count after neoadjuvant chemotherapy

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0 (all normal)
• maximum score: 7 (all abnormal)
• A score >= 4 is associated with worse overall survival.
• A score < 3 is associated with good 3-year and fair 5-year overall survival.
Other factors impacting overall survival:
(1) FIGO stage 4
(2) complete tumor resection (no residual disease at time of surgery)
