Description

Inflammatory carcinoma of the breast features tumor within small dermal lymphatics and often behaves in an aggressive manner. Dawood et al identified prognostic factors for these patients. The authors are from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Dubai Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.

where:

• Inflammatory carcinoma is classified as pT4d. Stage IV has distant metastases. Stage IIIB is nodal stage N0, N1 or N2 while Stage IIIC is nodal stage N3 (>= 10 nodes positive).

• Both estrogen and progesterone receptors performed. Definition of “hormone receptor” not seen in text, presumable estrogen receptor. Li et al identified triple negative tumors as having a poor overall survival.

 

A woman with multiple unfavorable factors may benefit from more aggressive management.
