Description

Diderholm et al reported prognostic factors for a patient with unstable coronary artery disease. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from an invasive management strategy. The authors are from the Fast Revascularization during InStability in Coronary artery disease (FRISC II) study.

Patient selection: unstable coronary artery disease

Parameters:

(1) serum troponin T using the Roche Elecsys assay

(2) ST segment depression in ECG

number of risk factors =

= SUM(points for both rish factors)

Interpretation:

• minimum number of risk factors: 0

• maximum number of risk factors: 2

• A patient with both risk factors has more severe coronary artery disease (in many cases either left main or 3 vessel coronary artery disease) and is more likely to benefit from an early invasive strategy.
