Lettinga et al identified prognostic factors in patients who developed Legionnaire's Disease after attending a large flower show in the Netherlands during 1999.
Prognostic factors associated with ICU admission or death in multivariate analysis:
(1) temperature > 38.5°C
(2) current smoking
(3) bilateral infiltrates in admission chest X-ray
Additional prognostic factors identified during univariate analysis:
(1) plasma creatinine > 100 µmol/L (development of renal insufficiency during the admission)
(2) dyspnea at presentation
(3) pleural effusions in admission chest X-ray
(4) failure to administer adequate antibiotics within 24 hours of admission (in patients with a positive urinary antigen test for Legionella)
