Day et al developed a prognostic index for patients with cutaneous melanoma. This was modified by Schmid-Wendtner et al.
Parameters:
(1) thickness of the tumor in mm
(2) number of mitoses per square mm (mitotic index)
prognostic index of Day et al =
= (thickness of tumor in mm) * (mitotic index)
modified prognostic index of Schmid-Wendtner et al =
= ((thickness of tumor in mm)^2) * (mitotic index)
