Description

Zhang et al reported models for a patient with portal hypertension who are undergoing surgery. One model predicts overall survival following the operation. The authors are from Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiatong University in China

Patient selection: portal hypertension, splenectomy plus pericardial devascularization (traditional or simplified)

Outcome: 5-year overall survival after surgery

Parameters:

(1) age in years, from 20 to 80 years

(2) operative time in minutes, from 40 to 320 minutes

(3) serum ALT in IU/L, from 0 to 800 IU/L

(4) ALBI, from -3.6 to -0.6

points for age =

= (1.5 * (years)) - 30

points for operative time =

= (0.22714 * (time)) - 9.08571

points for serum ALT =

= (0.125 * (ALT))

points for ALBI =

= (28 * (ALBI)) + 100.8

total score =

= SUM(points for all 4 parameters)

Interpretation:

minimum score: 0

maximum score: 337.6

The higher the score the lower the 5-year overall survival.
