Description

Bourdel-Marchasson et al reported a prognostic score for an older patient with cancer. This is based on components of the MNA (Mini Nutritional Assessment). The authors are from CHU Bordeaux, Bordeaux University and Institut Bergonie in France.

Patient selection: older adult with cancer

Outcome: 1-year mortality rate

Parameters:

(1) food intake over the past 3 months

(2) number of prescription drugs taken daily

(3) intake of protein-rich food

(4) calf circumference in centimeters

(5) organ of cancer origin

(6) metastases

(7) absolute lymphocyte count per microliter

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 75.3

• Patients with a score <= 21 had a 1-year mortality of 19.5%.

• Patients with a score >= 31 had a 1-year mortality rate of 70%.

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.79.
