Van Koningsveld et al reported a clinical prognostic score for a patient with Guillain-Barre syndrome. This can help to identify a patient who is at risk for prolonged disability. The authors are from Erasmus MC Rotterdam and King's College London.
Patient selection: Guillain-Barre syndrome
Outcome: inability to walk independently at 6 months
Parameters:
(1) age at onset in years
(2) diarrhea preceding onset (<= 4 weeks)
(3) GBS disability score of Hughes, from 0 to 6

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 1
• maximum score: 7
• The higher the score the greater the risk of not being able to walk at 6 months.
