Favrat et al developed a prognostic staging system to evaluate patients in a methadone maintenance program. This can help identify those patients who are at risk for early attrition or adverse discharge and who may benefit from early interventions. The authors are from Yale University and the University of Lasanne in Switzerland.

(4) history of a disease related to substance use (overdose, viral hepatitis, subcutaneous abscess, HIV, endocarditis, etc.)
