A patient with gastroparesis may experience a poor quality of life.
Factorsthat may contribute to a poor quality of life include:
(1) gastric distention and bloating
(2) nausea and vomiting
(3) malnutrition
(4) constipation and other signs of poor intestinal motility
(5) chronic abdominal pain
(6) depression and/or anxiety
(7) adverse effects of pain medications
(8) impaired quality of life associated with underlying cause (diabetes, autonomic failure, etc)
(9) severity of disability, with economic impact
