Onitilo et al developed a score for staging a differentiated thyroid carcinoma. This is meant to be simpler to determine than the TNM stage. The authors are from Karolinska University Hospital, Mubarak Al-Kabeer Teaching Hospital and Kuwait University.
Patient selection: differentiated thyroid cancer
Parameters:
(1) histologic type
(2) age of the patient in years
(3) number of regional lymph nodes with metastases
(4) tumor diameter and/or extrathyroid extension

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 15
• The higher the score the greater the risk.
