The ratio of the platelet distribution width (PDW) to platelet count is one of the platelet volume indices and may have some prognostic information in some situations.
Parameters:
(1) platelet distribution width in percent
(2) platelet count in 10^4/µL
ratio of PDW to PC =
= (PDW) / (PC)
Interpretation:
• An elevated ratio indicates is associated with an elevated PDW and/or lower platelet count.
• Takeuchi et al identified an elevated ratio (>= 0.59) associated with a worse prognosis.
