Hiraoka et al reported the Recommendation for Esophagogastric Varices (EGV) Screening (REGS) Score for screening a patient with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma for gastroesophageal varices. This can be performed with simple tests, without the need for measurement of hepatic stiffness. The authors are from multiple institutions in Japan.
