Following certain steps can optimize feeding of a child and can avoid some feeding difficulties.
Recommendations:
(1) avoid distractions during a meal (television, toys, cell phone, etc)
(2) limit meal duration to no more than 30 minutes
(3) limit intake to 4 to 6 meals or snacks per day with water in between
(4) serve age-appropriate foods
(5) systematically introduce new foods
(6) encourage self-feeding
(7) tolerate an age-appropriate mess
(8) maintain a pleasant attitude throughout the meal
(9) accept the child's own interpretation of satiety
(10) be a model healthy eating
